Steeling the Show: Backing Isaac Steel’s Rise in New Zealand Golf

A young athlete with grit, focus, and heart

Isaac Steel is a rising New Zealand golfer whose results and resilience continue to turn heads across the junior and amateur circuit. With national recognition, major wins, and a powerful comeback story, Isaac has firmly established himself as one of Aotearoa’s young talents to watch.

Key highlights so far

  • National Recognition: Selected for the Golf New Zealand Development Squad (U19) for 2025

  • Major Win: Champion of the Men’s North Shore Classic (2025)

  • NZ Amateur Success: Finalist at the 2025 New Zealand Amateur Championship

  • School Sport Excellence: Integral member of Hamilton Boys’ High School golf team, contributing to major school titles including the Super 8 Golf Shield

A setback that tested everything

Isaac’s love for golf began at age 10, inspired by his dad. By Year 9, he had already secured a spot in his school’s elite golf programme and was progressing rapidly through national development pathways.

Then in March 2024, everything paused.

A severe back injury revealed a full fracture of his L5 vertebra — with doctors estimating a 9–10 month recovery. For a young athlete on the rise, it was a defining moment.

Quiet support, real belief

The Hodge Foundation had been supporting Isaac for over two years at that point. During his injury and recovery, that support didn’t stop.

Paul Hodge, founder of The Hodge Foundation, stayed closely connected offering encouragement, belief, and practical backing during a time when progress was slow and uncertainty high.

By December 2024, Isaac returned to the course. Carefully. Patiently. Stronger in more ways than one.

The comeback

By January 2025, Isaac was back competing — and delivering results:

  • 5th — North Island U19s

  • 8th — Taranaki Strokeplay

  • 2nd — Horowhenua Open

In October 2025, he reached the final of the New Zealand Amateur Championship, extending his stay and even changing flights last-minute — a testament to his composure, maturity, and focus under pressure.

Giving back

In a moment that captured his character, Isaac volunteered at our annual Golf Fundraising Tournament in December a simple but powerful gesture of gratitude and connection.

Proudly backing the journey

Isaac Steel represents everything we stand for: perseverance, humility, work ethic, and quiet ambition. We are proud to support his journey as he continues climbing toward professional golf — and we can’t wait to see what comes next.
